CH-VOID PRESENTS ‘ON DIARY’
SOCIETY, OUR ARTIST EMPOWERMENT ARM, HOSTED AN INTERACTIVE READING WITH DIANA SCHLOSSBERG, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BOWERY POETRY CLUB.
It was rainy and cold in New York City, but that didn’t deter fans of art and community, as the room of the Bowery Poetry Club slowly began to fill for the latest Society event.
Artist and performer presented, ‘On Diary,’ a multimedia exploration of her emotions once she began hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The raw material of the project included three of Diana’s private diaries, complete with art – hand drawn and paper-mâché offerings from found materials – which chronicled her complicated inner life throughout her transition.
Equally forthright and moving, ‘On Diary’ was a presentation of highlights from the original diaries. Diana read directly from the source material while its contents were broadcasted over a projector.
The crowd was moved to laughter and tears, as Diana candidly recounted confessions. Despite the unique conditions under which her diaries were written, the humanity of the work was universally relatable.
