Communicating across multiple mediums, Jarrod’s expressive gestures are true to his teachings in sign language. The invitation to visit his studio apartment in Brooklyn where we sit feels intimate and honest. The space speaks to his immersion in his practice. Sculptures and unfinished canvases peer over tools and workbenches, entwined with the nuisances of living in the big city. “I surprised myself,” says Jarrod, speaking of his first exploration with painting, his humility contrasting with the depth of his work.
